Cooking directions

• In a 3 or 4-quart non-aluminum pot bring broth to a boil. Reduce heat and stir in the vegetable seasoning packet from soup mix. - Aluminum reacts with the acid in tomatoes and may cause a metallic taste.
• Return to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes.
• Add the tomato puree and brown sugar, stir and return to a gentle simmer, covered for 10 minutes.
• Reduce heat and slowly stir in the cream. Cook uncovered at low heat for another 5 minutes. Serve with a crusty bread and enjoy.
• Makes about 10 servings.

Additional items needed to make the tomato basil soup

• 6 cups of chicken broth
• 1 can of tomato puree 29 oz.
• 2 tbsp. Brown sugar
• 1 cup light or heavy cream 

Add cream if desired and serve with a grilled cheese sandwich or more elegantly with shrimp and feta cheese
