How do I replace a mailbox that is on an existing wood post? Remove the nails or screws from the old mailbox. Prepare the wooden post for mounting the new mailbox. You have completed the necessary steps to put your new mailbox in place.

Please examine the wood to ensure it is not rotting or cracking. If so, you will need to replace any of the damaged wood or potentially replace the mailbox post.  You will now have the ability to paint or stain your existing post.
