Make Room for the Magic: A Handcrafted Wooden Manger for Your Outdoor Nativity

Remember the Christmas Eves of your childhood? The cold air, the glow of porch lights, the hush that fell over the yard when the Nativity was finally set out? For so many families, that simple scene is the heart of Christmas. It's where the story begins, and where traditions are passed from one generation to the next.

Our Handcrafted Wooden Manger gives that story a place to rest. Built from solid wood and made to stand up to the elements, it's the centerpiece your outdoor Nativity has been waiting for.

Why You'll Love It

  • Custom made when you order. Every manger is handcrafted just for you.
  • Choose your size: Large (21" wide) or XL (23.5" wide).
  • Choose your wood: Naturally beautiful western cedar or sturdy southern yellow pine.
  • Weather-resistant wood built for outdoor display.
  • Folds flat for easy storage, so it's simple to pack away after the season and bring out year after year.
  • Baby Jesus is not included. The figure shown is for display only, so you can use your own cherished Nativity piece.

The manger comes out when the Christmas season begins, whether that's the day after Thanksgiving, the first Sunday of Advent, or the night you string the lights. You'll use it because the Nativity is the reason for the season, and because a thoughtfully made manger gives the scene a real, rustic presence that plastic and mass-produced pieces can't match. Many families place the empty manger out first, then add baby Jesus on Christmas Eve, a sweet tradition for children to look forward to.

Ways to Decorate

Outdoors:

  • Tuck fresh evergreen boughs, pine cones, and a few sprigs of holly around the base.
  • Scatter loose straw or hay inside and around the manger for a warm, authentic look.
  • Add a spotlight or soft white string lights so the scene glows on dark winter nights.
  • Pair it with a wooden stable backdrop, lanterns, and your favorite Nativity figures.
  • Finish with a dusting of real snow if the weather cooperates.

Indoors:

  • Display it on a mantel, entry table, or sideboard.
  • Surround it with candles (battery-operated are a safe choice), greenery, and ribbon.
  • Let the kids set up the scene themselves, which is a wonderful way to share the story.

Care Tips for Years of Use

Wood is a natural material, so a little protection goes a long way. To keep your manger looking beautiful for many seasons, we recommend applying a coat of clear or tinted wood treatment, such as Thompson's WaterSeal, or finishing it with a semi-transparent stain. Store it dry and folded flat when the season ends.

Please Note

Because each manger is made from natural wood, you may notice slight variations in grain, color, and character from piece to piece. These natural differences are part of what makes your manger one of a kind.
