What is the difference between Regular Soap and Castile Soap?

The main difference between regular bar soap and Castile soap is that regular soap is made from lard and other animal fats. Castile soap is considered a Vegan product because it is made of vegetable oils. Castile soap got its name because in olden times, it was made from Olive Oil from the Castile region of Spain.

Today, this type of soap is made from either castor, hemp, or coconut oil, (which Kirks Castile Soaps are made of.) The owners of Kirks use purely coconut oil because it is less expensive and more readily available than olive oil. Vegetable oils are biodegradable and therefore ecofriendly, as well.
