Who ever heard of a Gooseberry?

Yoder’s Gooseberry Jam is a true old-time favorite—one of those treasured flavors you don’t see much anymore, but never forget once you’ve tasted it. Carefully made in small batches in Ohio, this homestyle jam brings back the days when gooseberry bushes grew behind the house or along country fences, and summer meant canning whatever the land provided.

Gooseberries are small, round berries known for their bright, tangy flavor—somewhere between a grape and a green apple. When cooked down, they mellow beautifully, turning into a smooth, pleasantly tart jam with a gentle sweetness that feels refreshingly old-fashioned. This is the kind of flavor that generations grew up on, often saved for special breakfasts or served when company came over.

Yoder’s Gooseberry Jam is made the traditional way, starting with whole organic, green gooseberries gently simmered with water until they soften and release their natural juices. Sugar is added to balance the fruit’s natural tartness, along with fruit pectin to create that familiar, spoonable texture. A small amount of citric acid is used to enhance the gooseberry’s bright flavor and help the jam set properly, while erythorbic acid is included to help preserve the jam’s fresh color and quality—both working quietly behind the scenes without changing the taste. Although green gooseberries are used, during the jam making process they turn into a warm pink, dark rose red, amber, or reddish-brown hue. Our Yoder's Gooseberry Jam becomes a lovely pink color and a delicious spread.

This all-natural jam is wonderful spread on warm toast, homemade biscuits, or fresh-baked bread. It pairs beautifully with butter on English muffins, adds a pleasant tang to scones, and makes a delightful glaze for pastries or thumbprint cookies. For something special, try it alongside cream cheese or spooned over plain yogurt for a taste that’s both simple and nostalgic.

Homemade, wholesome, and rooted in tradition, Yoder’s Gooseberry Jam is a reminder of a time when nothing went to waste and the best flavors came straight from the backyard—stored with care and shared around the table.
