Happy National French Fry Day - July 13, 2026!

Ode to French Fry Day – One of America's Favorite Comfort Foods

There are some foods that never seem to go out of style. Homemade apple pie. A juicy hamburger fresh off the grill. A thick milkshake on a hot summer afternoon. And, of course...French fries.

Every year on July 13th, we celebrate National French Fry Day, and honestly, who needs much of an excuse? Whether they're crispy, curly, crinkle-cut, steak fries, waffle fries, or those old-fashioned hand-cut fries served in a paper basket at the local diner, French fries have a way of making just about any meal a little happier.

Growing up, French fries weren't an everyday meal in our house. They were a treat. Maybe Dad had the evening off, or perhaps we had spent the afternoon running errands and decided to stop for burgers on the way home. Somehow those fries always tasted better when shared with family.

Back then, nobody counted how many fries they ate. We simply reached into the basket, grabbed another handful, and enjoyed every bite. Sometimes the fries disappeared before we even got home!

Summer seems like the perfect season for French fries. They pair perfectly with backyard cookouts, picnics, family reunions, county fairs, baseball games, and neighborhood gatherings. They seem to belong beside a grilled hamburger, hot dog, pulled pork sandwich, or barbecue chicken.

But National French Fry Day doesn't have to mean driving through the nearest fast-food restaurant. It can be a fun excuse to gather the family and get creative in the kitchen.

Why not set up your own French Fry Bar for dinner?

Bake or fry a big batch of your favorite fries and let everyone build their own masterpiece. Fill small bowls with toppings and let each person create something delicious.

Some favorite toppings include:

If you're feeling adventurous, try a few sweet-and-savory combinations. Dip your fries into honey mustard, maple syrup, spicy aioli, or even a fruit-based barbecue sauce. Try one of our Halladay's Herb Dips and Cooking Blends for a unique treat.

Some people swear by French fries dipped into a thick vanilla milkshake. It may sound unusual, but don't knock it until you've tried it!

One of my favorite ways to eat french fries is on top of a Pittsburgh Steak Salad, sitting around a picnic table on a warm summer evening, while talking about our day. If you've never had it, you should definetely try it! You can't live in Pittsburgh, PA and eat a salad any other way. There is something about the way the warm steak, french fries steak, and melted cheese melds in with cool homemade ranch dressing and cold, crisp lettuce, cucumbers, and tomatoes. Yummy!

Here are Harvest Array's Fearless Leader's Favorite French Fries:

In-n-Out Animal Style Burger and Fries

Unfortunately, He discovered his new french fry obsession when his family traveled to California. The closest In-N-Out Burger Restaurant to Harvest Array's headquarters in western North Carolina, is in Tennessee. They have not made it there yet to indulge in the coveted In-N-Out Animal Style French Fries. But, in researching for this National French Fry Day Blog, I have found a copycat recipe I think he will love!

Instructions

For the Onions

For the Animal Sauce

  • To make the animal fry spread: Add mayonnaise, ketchup, relish, sugar, and vinegar to a small bowl and stir to combine.

Serve it Up

  • Place fries on plate, cover with slices of American Cheese, melted onions, and the animal style spread.
